Mi Lupita was a long life dream of Jose and Maria Haro. Jose and Maria, from Zacatecas, Mexico raised their family in Chicago, IL. Jose and Maria moved to MO with the dream of opening a Mexican Restaurant and Missouri, with limited “Authentic” restaurants in 1992, became a very appealing location to start.
With the help from their children, Jose and Maria located a location in Ballwin, MO. Warned by the rumor that two other businesses had attempted and failed, Jose and Maria opened the location at Mi Lupita in Ballwin. Realizing that this business did not have the option to fail, Jose and Maria Haro solicited the help of their Daughter Henrietta and her husband Jose Campos to run this business as a team. Together they were out to make this business successful.
The name “Mi Lupita” came to be based on a couple of different factors. As devout Catholics, Jose and Maria felt that they should honor the Mexican Patron, Our lady of Guadalupe. “Lupita” being a term of endearment for Guadalupe was to be included in the business name. Guadalupe was the same name shared by the mother of Jose Haro who at birth lost his mother. So to honor both, Mi Lupita was decided to be the name for the business meaning “My Guadalupe” or “Mi Lupita”.
In 2002, a second Mi Lupita Restaurant was opened in Fenton, MO, also family owned. Both locations offer the authentic Mexican food with the specialty of flavors offered in Zacatecas, Mexico. Come in and try our Bistec Zacatecano which offers the spicy flavors of the Zacatecano sauce used to spice up thin strips of steak served with Rice and Beans. Bistec Ranchero gives you the same great taste, not quite as spicy. A true traditional Chile Relleno is sure to please your appetite. This poblano pepper is stuffed with cheese and cooked to perfection. Have a Chile Relleno as a meal with the rice and beans or simply get one on the side to compliment any one of the 20+ meals. Can’t beat the tamales, hand made by Maria and served in their cornhusk. We have everyone’s favorite chicken, beef and shrimp fajitas but we also have the most scrumptious Pork and Cactus Fajitas. Mi Lupita’s best seller Chimichangas leave you coming back for more.
